Salary calculator: hourly to yearly

Multiply your hourly rate by the hours you work in a week and by 52. At 40 hours a week, $25 an hour is $52,000 a year. Change the hours to match your shift schedule: 36 for three 12s, 42 for a 12-hour rotation and 56 for a 24/48.

Salary to hourly

Divide the yearly salary by the hours you work in a year: by 2,080 for a 40-hour week. $60,000 a year is $28.85 an hour; $75,000 is $36.06. Federal agencies divide by 2,087 instead, the long-run average of weekday hours (5 U.S.C. 5504(b)). See work hours in a year for why 2027 has 2,088.

Weekly, biweekly or twice a month?

The same salary gives different paychecks depending on how often you are paid. A $52,000 salary is $1,000 a week, $2,000 every two weeks (26 paychecks), $2,166.67 twice a month (24 paychecks) or $4,333.33 a month. Biweekly and twice-a-month sound alike but differ by two paychecks a year. In a year with 27 biweekly paydays, as some payrolls have in 2027, hourly workers simply get one more check; salaried workers should ask whether the employer divides the salary by 26 or by 27. See the 2027 pay period calendar.

From gross salary to take-home pay

At $25 an hour and 40 hours a week, $52,000 a year, a single filer in 2026 pays about $3,978 in Social Security and Medicare (7.65%) and about $4,060 in federal income tax after the $16,100 standard deduction, which leaves about $43,962 before any state tax. The tax calculator shows the brackets and the paycheck calculator splits it per paycheck.

A night differential adds up quickly: $2 an hour extra on half of the 2,184 hours of a 12-hour rotation is $2,184 a year, and it also raises the overtime rate.

Shift workers: count the overtime

On a 12-hour rotation the weeks are uneven, so some weeks pass 40 hours and pay overtime even though the average is 42. Depending on the day your employer's workweek starts, a Pitman crew can work anything from about 208 to 520 overtime hours a year. The shift pay calculator adds that overtime for your pattern, and the paycheck calculator shows take-home pay.
