Is 2027 a 27-paycheck year?
A year has 52 weeks and one day (two in a leap year), so the paydays slowly move earlier. Every 11 years or so a biweekly payroll fits 27 paydays into one year instead of 26, and a weekly payroll fits 53 instead of 52. 2027 starts on a Friday and is not a leap year, so it has 53 Fridays.

Federal employees are paid every two weeks on a Sunday-to-Saturday cycle. The leave year begins with the first day of the first complete pay period of the calendar year (5 CFR 630.201), so the 2027 leave year runs from Sunday, January 10, 2027 to Saturday, January 8, 2028: 26 pay periods.

Payday comes a few days after each period ends and depends on your payroll provider (NFC, DFAS, DOI IBC or GSA), so check your agency's calendar for the exact date. Annual leave above the carryover limit (usually 240 hours, 5 U.S.C. 6304) is forfeited at the end of the leave year, so the last day to use 2027 leave is Saturday, January 8, 2028.
What a 27th paycheck means
If you are paid by the hour, a 27th payday is simply one more paycheck for two more weeks of work. If you are on a yearly salary, check how your employer divides it: some divide the salary by 27 that year, so each paycheck is a little smaller; others keep 26 equal paychecks and pay the extra one on top. Deductions taken per paycheck, such as health premiums or retirement contributions, may also come out 27 times.
